Today, June 19th, is Juneteenth—and Immunocologie Skincare has a message:

“Today we pause in remembrance. Juneteenth is a time to reflect, to honor the enduring strength of Black communities, and to stand in commitment for shared humanity.”

More About Immunocologie Skincare

Karen Ballou is the CEO & Founder of Immunocologie Skincare. Although Immunocologie is not a black-owned brand, it aims to remind beauty consumers of Juneteenth’s significance. The brand is a small business—and has a sustainable mission.

The brand sources many of its ingredients in Burkina Faso, where Ballou cultivated relationships with local business owners.

“We make sure that each action has a regenerative impact—like replanting the fruits and plants we harvest. This respects natural ecosystems and integrates the economic, social, and political dimensions of human life,” Immunocologie states on its website.

The brand’s plant-based products contain cold-pressed ingredients to support skin health. Every product contains French green clay, known for its healing properties.

More About Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. It is a federally-recognized holiday in the U.S., since 2021.

This year, Juneteenth marks the 160th anniversary of the day that the Union Army enforced the Emancipation Proclamation. See the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture for more details.
